KUTAJ is the main Ayurvedic herb for bacterial or amoebic dysentery; hence a good herb to know of if one travels in India or other third world countries. Where travelers easily come down with such conditions. Kutaj is specific to the colon in its action and helps restore normal colon function. It is excellent for conditions like candida that are based upon poor flora in the intestines.

However, owing to its strong nature, it should not be taken over long periods of time. For bleeding hemorrhoids take one-half teaspoon of Kutaj in one-half cup of pomegranate juice, two or three ties a day to stop the bleeding. For burning urination take one-half teaspoon of Kutaj boiled for five minutes in one cup of milk two or three times a day.

Kutaja benefits include supporting the digestive fire, burning natural toxins, and helping to dispel excess pitta and kapha from the intestines. Its astringent and cooling properties soothe the mucous membranes of the GI tract and promote intestinal health and comfort.
